Food factory cleaning

Food manufacturing cleaning your QA team can stand behind.

Emera turns sanitation from a liability into an advantage for Australian food manufacturers in Melbourne and Sydney.

Food manufacturing sanitation is our core work. We clean meat, poultry and ready-to-eat food factories across Melbourne and sydney, using HACCP-based methods in close partnership with your site's operations and QA leads.

For Operations, QA and your MD

Three pressures. Oner partner.

We pride ourselves on having a deep understanding of the challenges facing the food and beverage industry in Australia. See what changes when sanitation stops being your problem.

  1. Pressure 1: Operations

Chasing the cleaners before every start-up.

    • Production staff re-cleaning before the shift starts
    • Cleaners who need reminding of the same jobs
    • Gaps in the roster when someone is sick
    • Nobody who answers for a missed task
  2. Answer 1: OperationsWith Emera

The line back at handover, with one person to call.

    • Rostered to your cleaning window, at night or between shifts
    • The same crew each shift, with cover briefed on your site
    • A heads-up to your production manager if a cleaner runs late

    A supervisor on every shift

  3. Pressure 2: Food safety and QA

Cleaning records that are late, thin or missing.

    • Checklists filled in after the fact
    • Chemicals or dilutions changed without asking QA
    • Gaps in the cleaning file when an auditor asks
  4. Answer 2: Food safety and QAWith Emera

Cleaning that works inside your food safety program.

    • Checklists, photos and sign-offs for every shift
    • A chemical register kept for your site
    • No chemical or method change without QA sign-off
    • Changeovers cleaned to the procedure your QA team validated

    A report after every clean

  5. Pressure 3: Cost and accountability

The hourly rate doesn't show the full cost.

    • Production wages spent on cleaning
    • Recruiting, overtime and cover for leave
    • Quotes that hide different scopes
  6. Answer 3: Cost and accountabilityWith Emera

One agreed price and a consistent team behind it

    • A written scope and price after a free site walk
    • Set it beside the full cost of running your own team
    • Managing the cleaners becomes our job

We understand your unique requirements

Industry-Specific Solutions

Our professional cleaning teams are trained to meet the unique requirements of various food production environments.

  • An Emera supervisor holding a folder in a wide meat processing room, with a crew member in blue coveralls behind

    Meat, poultry and smallgoods

Wet production rooms with heavy fat and protein soils, cleaned around your production run.

    • Floors, walls and drains. Washed down after production, with high-pressure washing where your site allows it.
    • Benches and processing equipment. Cleaned once our crew has followed your lockout procedure for each machine.
    • Cool rooms and freezers. Cleaned on the schedule set in your scope.
  • A cleaner in blue coveralls wiping a stainless steel hopper

    Ready-to-eat meals and dumplings

Multi-product lines where runs change often, so changeover cleans set the pace.

    • Changeover cleans between runs. Done to the method and order your QA team has validated.
    • Conveyors and packing lines. Belts, guides and frames cleaned under your lockout procedure.
    • Periodic deep cleans. Behind and under equipment, walls and high surfaces, on the schedule in your scope.
  • A cleaner rinsing a stainless steel wash flume and conveyor

    Plant-based foods

Plant-based lines, on their own site or beside meat production, cleaned to the zones your QA team sets.

    • Separate equipment for each zone. Colour-coded, so it stays in its own area.
    • Changeovers to your procedure. Your QA team decides when the line is released.
    • Records for your audit file. Checklists, photos and the chemical register for every shift.

For your QA team

Shift records that slot into your audit file.

Your QA team owns the food safety program. We own the cleaning inside it. Each shift, our cleaners clock in on our app, work through your site's checklist and take before and after photos. Someone from your team can sign the job off. The report comes to you when the job is done, so the cleaning side of your audit file is there when an auditor asks.

  • A checklist for every shift. Written for your site, area by area, and ticked off on our app.
  • Before and after photos. With the time and the cleaner's name.
  • A chemical register. Every product we use on your site, with its safety data sheet.
  • No change without QA sign-off. A new chemical, dilution or method waits until your QA team approves it.

How we work

From site walk to the first shift on record.

  1. 01

We walk the site with you

We look at your production areas and equipment, and ask about PPE, chemicals, dilutions, cleaning order and lockout. Expect a lot of questions.

  2. 02

Get a written scope and price

You see what we'll clean, how often, who's responsible and what it costs. Nothing is booked until you agree.

  3. 03

Your crew is inducted on site

The crew and supervisor complete your site induction and learn your zones, PPE and lockout rules before the first clean.

  4. 04

    Every shift goes on record

Each shift is checked off on our app with photos, and the report comes to you when the job is done.

  • Cm3 prequalified: Prequalified on Cm3, where independent assessors check a contractor's safety systems, insurances, licences and competencies before it works on a client's site.
  • 62 sites

are run on our own app, where each clean is clocked in and checked off against the site's list.

  • 30+ staff

work across those sites, with cleaners rostered to the same places so each crew knows its site.

  • 30 days

is the warning our app gives us before a cleaner's licence or a subcontractor's insurance expires.

  • 2020

is when we started Emera in our living room during COVID. We still run it with the same conviction today.

Wash-downs and repairs on the same booking.

Pressure washing and plumbing for your site can go on the same team as the cleaning

  • Pressure washing

Car parks, loading docks, footpaths, bin areas and building walls washed at commercial sites, after hours or on weekends.

  • Plumbing

Drains, taps, toilets and leaks at factories, warehouses, offices and venues, fixed by licensed plumbers and planned around your water shut-offs.

About food factory cleaning

Questions food manufacturers ask before switching cleaners.

Handover, records, HACCP, allergens and cost. If your question isn't here, ask us on the form.

All areas we service
Can you clean around our production schedule, so start-up isn't held up?

Yes. Emera builds the cleaning roster around your cleaning window, at night, on weekends or between shifts, so your lines are ready before production starts.

If a cleaner is running late, we tell your production manager straight away, so nobody finds out at start-up.

How do your cleaning records help at a food safety audit?

Emera keeps the cleaning side of your audit file complete, so the records are there when an auditor or customer asks. That means the agreed scope, checklists and photos for every shift, sign-offs and a register of the chemicals used.

We can't pass an audit for you, and you should be wary of anyone who says they can. Your QA team owns your food safety program, and we own the cleaning inside it.

Are you HACCP certified?

Yes. Emera holds HACCP certification issued by Compass Assurance Services, an independent certification body. We can send you a copy with our proposal.

Our crews on food sites are trained in HACCP-based cleaning, safe chemical use and lockout procedures.

Who checks the lines are ready before our first shift starts?

Emera's supervisor does. They run each cleaning shift, check the work against your site's checklist and sign off the handover before your first shift starts.

Your team can also sign the job off on our app and say whether they're happy with it. You have one person to call about the handover, not a crew to chase.

Will the same cleaners come to our site each time, even when someone is sick?

Yes. Emera rosters the same crew to your site, so they learn its layout and routines instead of starting fresh each visit.

If someone is sick or on leave, we cover the shift and brief the replacement on your site. Sick days are our problem to solve, not yours.

Will you change chemicals or cleaning methods without our QA team's sign-off?

No. Emera keeps the chemicals, dilutions and methods in your agreed scope as they are until your QA team approves a change.

If we think a change would help, we put it to your QA team first, with the product's safety data sheet. Once they approve it, we update your scope and your site's chemical register.

How will we know the cleaning was done, without checking it ourselves?

You get a report from Emera's app after every clean. The cleaner clocks in, works through your site's checklist and takes before and after photos, and someone from your team can sign the job off.

Each report is a dated record of what was cleaned and who cleaned it, so the proof is there when an auditor asks. See how we prove the work was done.

Do you clean production equipment and conveyors, or only floors, walls and drains?

Both. Emera cleans production equipment and conveyors as well as floors, walls and drains, after our crew follows your site's lockout procedure for each machine.

Your written scope lists each piece of equipment we clean and how often, so your maintenance and QA teams know where our work starts and stops. Cool rooms, freezers and periodic deep cleans can go on the same scope.

How do you handle allergen changeovers between product runs?

Emera cleans allergen changeovers to the procedure your QA team has validated, in the order it sets. Our crews use colour-coded equipment kept to each zone, which lowers the risk of cross-contact between products.

Your QA team decides when the line is released, using its own checks. Each changeover clean is recorded on our app, so it sits in your file with the rest of the shift.

What does our own cleaning team really cost, compared with a contract crew?

On the hourly rate alone, your own team can look cheaper. Its full cost also includes recruiting and training, supervision, chemicals and equipment, cover for sick days and leave, and any production staff who stay back to clean.

After the site walk, Emera gives you one written price showing what we'll clean and how often, to set beside your own numbers. One supervisor answers for the work, and managing the cleaners becomes our job.

Start with a walk around your site.

It's free, and you'll get our honest read on what needs to change at your site, whether or not you go ahead with us.

  1. 1We call you within one business day to book a time.
  2. 2We walk the site with you and look at what it needs.
  3. 3You get a written scope and price to decide on.
